This Year’s Club Nintendo Elite Rewards Are All Digital

July 16, 2014 by Tony Ponce

No physical prizes, only downloadable Wii U and 3DS games.

Nintendo has announced the 2014 Club Nintendo prizes for Elite members, and they're quite the departure from the usual options. Instead of any exclusive physical rewards like last year's Majora's Mask soundtrack, both Platinum and Gold Status rewards are downloadable titles for Wii U or 3DS.

For Platinum members, you'll be able to choose from Game & Wario, NES Remix, EarthBound, or Dr. Luigi for Wii U, or from Fluidity: Spin Cycle, Dillon's Rolling Western, or Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move for 3DS. Gold members only have access to Virtual Console titles, from Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Super Mario Bros., or Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for Wii U, or from Donkey Kong 3, Wario Land 2, or Metroid for 3DS.

Club Nintendo is a rewards program that allows you to register games and hardware for Coins which can be used to purchase items like wallpaper or 3DS pouches from an online catalog. Members who register enough items before the Club Nintendo year ends in June can qualify for Gold or Platinum prizes. Usually, these prizes are physical trinkets that can't be obtained by any other means, but this year's selection contains games that anyone can buy on their own. No doubt a lot of Nintendo fans will be disappointed by the lack of even so much as a Nintendo calendar, which has been a yearly Elite prize staple since the program began back in 2009.
