Far Cry 4: Pagan Min Isn’t Your Father, Game is ‘Packed to the Gills With Women’

July 1, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Ubisoft still hasn’t mastered the art of talking about the fairer sex properly, it seems.

FarCry 4 creative director Alex Hutchinson has told Outside Xbox that the game's villain, Pagan Min, is not the protagonist's father.

Hutchinson commented that while Min is "not your father" he is "someone who has a history with you. We didn't want a villain who's just shaking his fist at you and threatening to kill you and murder your family, and the inevitability of you shotgunning him in the face. And neither did we want someone who didn't know you at all. We wanted you to actually sort of have a secret history in this country."

Ubisoft was met with controversy at E3 when it was confirmed that while both Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity have co-op, you cannot play as a woman. Hutchinson himself told Polygon the development team were "inches away" from adding the option to play as either sex.

He noted that Ubisoft "tried very hard to make sure of the four main antagonists, half of them are women, which is cool. On your side, one of the main leaders of the rebel faction is a woman, half the rebels that fight with you are women. It's packed to the gills with women. They're everywhere, just like life."

And oceans, apparently.

Far Cry 4 sees protagonist Ajay Ghale return to the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat to fulfill his mother's wishes and become involved in the country's raging civil war. The game is set for release on November 18th in North America and on November 21st in Europe for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
