Battlefield 4: Netcode Optimization, Changes to Rush Incoming

DICE is improving the game’s netcode and updating its Rush mode to provide players with a better experience.

Battlefield 4 developer DICE has announced the changes coming to the game in its upcoming patches, which are set to optimize the game’s netcode, improve Rush mode, and other core aspects of the game.

Detailing these issues on the official Battlefield blog, DICE’s Vincent Vukovic states that the game’s community test environment has allowed its developers to figure out exactly what’s wrong with the game and iron out these kinks, and added that improving the game’s currently unstable netcode is DICE’s highest priority.

“Making improvements to the ‘Netcode’ in Battlefield 4 has been a top priority for us,” he wrote. “Some of the items we’ve been specifically looking at is how to decrease the feeling of getting killed when behind cover and getting killed without initially seeing a damage indicator. The improvements we did were released in June, and we’re looking at testing out additional fixes during the coming months.”

Some changes to gameplay are also coming, relative to the Dragon’s Teeth expansion pack that’s set for release soon. The Ballistics Shield will no longer be able to one-hit enemies or deflect armor piercing rounds. 

Vukovic notes that changes are coming to the game’s Rush mode, and that testing is currently being performed on Siege of Shanghai, Zavod 311, and Operation Locker to start. The focus of these changes is to increase the balance and flow of the Rush round, which means making it easier for attackers to tackle certian MCOMs. 

Apart from the changes above, here’s what else the developers are working on:

  • General Weapon tweaks/balance
  • Weapon Suppression tuning
  • 3P Head-flinch dampening
  • Visual recoil ADS tuning
  • Vehicle tuning/balance
  • Game modes: Rush, Continued tweaks to Obliteration Competitive and Conquest small
  • HUD improvements and bug fixes
