Destiny PS4 Details Emerge & Players Will be ‘Pleasantly Surprised’ by PS3 and Xbox 360 Versions

June 2, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Bungie is ‘taking advantage of the cool things Sony’s doing’ with PS4.

Speaking to Game Master, Bungie producer Pete Parsons has said PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players should be "pleasantly surprised" by how well Destiny performs on those systems.

His comments were relayed by AgriosEndendros on Reddit.

Parsons said:

"Hopefully players will be pleasantly surprised by how appealing it is on [last generation hardware]. It’s the same game, that was hugely important to us. Part of some of the really big, ambitious technologies set up for this… all of this lives on one set of servers. There’s one world that we’re building, and that is extended out to multiple platforms."

This is the first game Bungie's developed for PlayStation (2002's ONI was ported to PS2 by Rockstar Toronto), but they seem impressed with lead designer Lars Bakken telling Official PlayStation Magazine UK how the studio is taking advantage of PS4 features such as the Share button and lightbar on the DualShock 4.

“We’re taking advantage of the cool things Sony’s doing with the [PS4] platform. The Share feature’s great – I love that thing. We’re also doing some cool lightbar stuff that’s extremely subtle. If you didn’t look for it you wouldn’t see it: when your health’s low it’s pulsing red, when your super’s ready it’s flashing yellow, when you go into Hive areas it’s pale green. A lot of people aren’t going to notice it but it makes the experience richer, and when the fans notice that stuff we love it."

Bakken also hinted at large scale destruction effects and the ability for players to make a big impact on the game world.

“All those things are possible. Right now we’re just focusing on making sure the first game out of the gate has everything we want in it and is working awesome, and when we start talking about things that’ll happen in the future those kinds of ideas are great. We have those ideas, but we’re going to save that stuff for later."

Destiny launches on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 9th. Publisher Activision confirmed last month that the game's beta will launch in July on PlayStation systems first.
