Let’s run down the Miiverse posts last week revealing daily tidbits for Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS.
Monday didn’t really have a particularly spoiler-y reveal. The pic depicts Olimar looking up to Giga Mac, and Sakurai muses on what could be in Olimar’s head.
On Tuesday, he revealed the capsules that the Assist Trophies will appear in. Apparently, the capsules will have rainbow-colored lights, and it can blink. It’s not quite clear if there will be any tells on what the capsules will contain, but apparently even something like Color TV-Game 15 will behave the same way as more conventional Assists.
Wednesday shares something very significant. After all this time, Sakurai capitulates to fans and tropes from other video games, and so Smash characters will now mirror each other when they face each other left and right. Sakurai touts that this makes the characters look good, but for pros, this is a good way to simplify the job of verifying and memorizing hitboxes much easier. Everyone will behave exactly the same way regardless of position too.
Thursday brings another significant gameplay tweak as well, this one specific to the 3DS version. In team play, the color outlines your character have will reflect their team affiliations. This seemed like a no-brainer, but it is definitely good to confirm it’s been added to the game.
Finally, Friday brought with it the big news of the week: Ike’s back to join Marth in representing Fire Emblem. There was a call from fans to bring characters from Fire Emblem Awakening (I mean, I wanted Marth Lucinda myself), but Ike is by no means a bad choice. He seems set to be a power character with considerable range thanks to his sword, and he is definitely a fine addition to Super Smash Bros’ roster. He's coming in to this game wearing his Radiant Dawn Threads, a little older, wiser, and not too shabby looking, based on the reactions I've seen.
Super Smash Bros is coming to 3DS this Summer, and then to Wii U this winter.
