Super Smash Bros fans are in for an amazing treat. Nintendo has come out with a press release for their upcoming Smash event this E3 at the Nokia theater. Based on the press release, they seem to have room for 3,000 fans in the stadium.
Let’s get to this stuff first. Nintendo’s press release explains that they will be disseminating wristbands for attendees outside the theater on a first-come, first-served basis. They made it a point to share they have 3,000 of those wristbands available for fans. Of course, they’re already telling fans they can’t lie up before that (sorry, Triforce).
Want some context? EVO 2013 last year had 3,538 players in attendance, amounting to 6,000 tournament entries for the event across different games.
Back to Nintendo’s event, they are also sharing now that attendees who dress up as their favorite characters could get priority seating for the event, presumably assuming they get those wristbands. Those cosplayers, along with Smash’s top players, will be featured front and center in the official Smash stream, to be broadcast live on the Twitch channels for E3 and Nintendo.
We don’t know if the public will go for Nintendo foregoing a traditional press event again, but that same EVO event last year also held a record number of views at 1.7 million viewers, so there’s actually a chance it might grab more views than other E3 events for the year. We’ll find out for sure not soon before long.
Super Smash Bros for 3DS is coming this summer, and Super Smash Bros for Wii U will be released this winter.
