Microsoft seems set to remove a long standing criticism of Xbox Live. Rumor is that they will finally remove the need to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold to use Netflix and Hulu.
If true, it is a small change that could make a huge difference to Xbox owners. While we’re sure Microsoft makes some revenue from this requirement, they have been outpaced by Sony and even Nintendo in allowing gamers to use both services on their platforms for free.
To compensate, Microsoft could be rebalancing by placing other content on an Xbox Live Gold paywall instead. For example, the upcoming Halo themed shows from Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott could take its place. Other applications that are free now could also go into hiding.
This move certainly won’t be enough to sway more consumers to buy an Xbox One, but it is an encouraging sign, that Microsoft is listening to consumers, and is more willing to make more changes to their benefit. Maybe they could free up Xbox One gameplay recording next? Or is that asking for too much? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
