The Elder Scrolls Online Delayed on PS4 and Xbox One

May 8, 2014 by Stephen Daly

PC and Mac gamers will be able to pick up the console version for $20.

In an update on The Elder Scrolls Online website, Bethesda has announced the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game have been delayed for "about six months" to achieve a satisfactory experience for players.

The statement reads:

"We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks—which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other—has been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible.

"Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve. We know that the news of an ESO console delay is as disappointing to many of you as it is to us."

Bethesda has arranged a special deal with Sony and Microsoft which means owners of the already launched PC or Mac version of The Elder Scrolls Online will be able to buy the console version for just $20 and you won't lose access to the PC version should you buy the game again on PS4 or Xbox One.

Character transfers will be possible and while you will be able to play both versions of the game, cross platform play seems unlikely.

The deal only applies to those who have bought The Elder Scrolls Online by the end of June, when the game was originally set for release.
