Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 1st COD To Use Full Capabilities Of PS4 And Xbox One

May 7, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The game also holds promise to be more than a shooter with its new melee mechanics.

Activision has shared fresh details regarding Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Activision states that this is the 1st Call of Duty to use the full power of the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Now, the language Activision CEO Eric Hirschberg used is a little contradictory. He refers to it as ‘pure next-gen’ development, although it’s also coming for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. What the heck does that even mean? Let’s unpack it.

What Eric means is that Advanced Warfare is the first COD where they had access to the newer consoles the whole time they were making the game. He refers to COD Ghosts, in comparison, as a cross gen game. If you check back, you can confirm that Activision have been consistent in referring to the game in that way.

As a result, Advanced Warfare will have many elements that take advantage of the capabilities of next gen consoles. Eric says this is what allows them to add the exoskeletons, the boost jump, and other mechanics it will have. Eric then brings up some melee mechanics, which sound like it will take the game away from the real of just being a shooter.

Of course, Eric also brought up Kevin Spacey, and his hopes that their use of performance capture to bring his likeness to the game will itself reach ‘iconic’ status.

This also implies, of course, that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions could be different. This could mean not only lower graphics benchmarks, but lowering the game’s scope, and possibly even removing features other versions will have. We will, of course, keep you up to date on the latest on Activision’s newest shooter. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is coming November 4 to Windows, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
