EA and DICE have unveiled a new Squad Join feature for Battlefield 4.
The feature is pretty straightforward and easy to understand. You create a squad when you go online, and then your friends can join in. The impromptu squad will then be ready to play immediately. The squad stays active as long as someone in said squad stays online. In this way, you can basically ensure you and your friends stick with each other.
Squad Join Beta is found in the multiplayer menu, and it will allow you to see active squads your friends are in and you can join in on, as well as let you choose to build your own. As soon as you’re ready, you can just click on quickmatch and you’re in. You will be able to use it on the base game maps, and use Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Obliteration, Rush, and Domination modes.
It is also possible to leave a squad and then join back in, as long as it still has an opening from the five slots. If you join in this way, you are added to both the squad and the match.
In the near future, DICE is adding features like party member management, and adding it into other game modes.
This feature is just the first iteration of its kind, and you can try it out now on PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PS4. It won’t be available on PC, but that shouldn’t surprise you, as DICE claims Battlelog is sufficient for matchmaking on that platform. You can watch a demo video of it below.
