Rockstar Games Will Put More Focus On Single-Player Content

February 17, 2021 by Dennis Patrick

More solo experiences are inbound.

When it comes to Rockstar Games, they are a massively popular video game development studio. This group has brought out a few iconic hits into the marketplace such as Grand Theft Auto, Bully, and Red Dead Redemption. While Bully hasn’t seen any new love since its first debut release, the others mentioned have new installments readily available for purchase today that are actively being supported. Grand Theft Auto V saw the launch of Grand Theft Auto Online, an online multiplayer counterpart to Grand Theft Auto V which was an incredible success for Rockstar Games.

The studio found that there was a real desire to play these games online with friends. I also can’t forget to mention the amount of revenue that has come in since Grand Theft Auto Online launched. With the different microtransactions available, Rockstar Games has continued to support this online multiplayer game mode for Grand Theft Auto V long after the initial installment launched into the marketplace. The same can be said to Red Dead Redemption 2’s online counterpart, Red Dead Online. Although the Red Dead Online game is fairly newer than Grand Theft Auto Online and hasn’t received as much content updated into the game.

Regardless, there is a ton of love for these online multiplayer games, but there are also quite a few players out there that take up with solo gameplay experiences. This is something that Rockstar Games has taken notice of as a recent investor’s call with Rockstar Games parent company, Take-Two Interactive, touched on the subject of single-player experiences for video games.

According to Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, their line of studios don’t believe that single-player video game titles are dying out. It was also noted that Rockstar Games is still known for powerful single-player narrative-driven experiences. Likewise, these experiences also come with big multiplayer game modes as well which allows Rockstar Games to offer the best of both worlds. While the studio has been thriving with new content updates for games such as Grand Theft Auto Online, we did receive new missions on Red Dead Online that are solo-based.
