Xbox Originals Programming Won’t Impact ‘Gaming First’ Strategy

April 28, 2014 by Stephen Daly

The first programmes will air this June on Xbox One.

Microsoft has detailed its Xbox Originals TV programmes on the Xbox Wire revealling that the first shows will air in June.

Among the shows being planned are a Halo TV series and digital feature, Humans – a collaboration with the UK's Channel 4 to remake the popular Swedish sci-fi – and Signal to Noise, a documentary which revolves around the successful dig to uncover millions of copies of E.T. on the Atari 2600 buried in a New Mexico landfill for 30 years.

According to Shack News, Microsoft recently teased Fable and Gears of War TV series at a press event.

Xbox Entertainment Studios executive vice president Jordan Levin was quoted by Polygon as saying that the move into TV will not infringe on Microsoft's gaming strategy:

"It's also probably worth saying that none of the activity we're pursuing is coming at the expense any of the investment that's been made in the platform overall or gaming overall. There isn't shifting of resources away from gaming to this. I mean, the nice thing about playing in a device like this, again, that's nonlinear is there's no finite space restrictions.

"We're simply a new service that is meant to increase the value proposition for the audience, and if they want to opt in, great, and if they don't, then we'll react and respond. But we're not, there's nothing that's getting displaced in the process of what we're trying to build."

The only Xbox Originals show to be dated is Bonnaroo, a Tennessee music festival, which will take place from June 13th to 15th and Microsoft plans to provide both live and interactive coverage of the event.
