It didn’t take long. Sony has confirmed PS4 Update 1.70 and revealed different features coming with it, in separate announcements for different regions.
Heads-up: PS4 firmware update 1.70, inc. SHAREfactory and HDCP Off, goes live on 30th April. More soon!
— PlayStation Europe (@PlayStationEU) April 25, 2014
First off, they have confirmed the rumor we reported on earlier. Playstation Europe revealed via tweet that video editor SHAREfactory is coming along with the update. Along with it is the choice to turn HDCP off so that you can capture video via the HDMI port yourself if you so choose. This tweet also gave the same release date of April 30.
Also coming with the update is the option to capture videos to USB, and to preload digital games. Let me explain the latter option a bit more. When you preorder a game, you can actually get a copy of the game loaded into your console before its release date. The download will taper off just enough so that the game will be unplayable until the actual date. Come release date, the game will be almost immediately available to play.
Also, to be clear, Sony has confirmed USB compatibility for only that much. They have not confirmed you can put videos in a USB drive to play in the PS4, only that you can take videos made with the PS4 out.
You can look forward to getting PS4 Update 1.70 at the end of the month.
