Diablo 3: Crusader’s Blade of Prophecy Hit by Stealth Nerf

April 21, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Did the Blade of Prophecy get nerfed in the latest patch for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls?

Update: Blizzard has posted an official update regarding the Blade of Prophecy and the supposed nerf.

Blade of Prophecy currently only procs two extra explosions of Condemn, regardless of how many targets are Condemned while the weapon is equipped.

This is intended functionality of the weapon, and has been since it was implemented. (This is really what I wanted to confirm.)

No changes have been made to Blade of Prophecy since RoS shipped, and no known bugs are currently active with the weapon.

Original post: The Crusader in Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls has a number of weapons that could be considered “best in slot” depending on the build you’re running and the Torment difficulty you’re playing the game on.

One of these such weapons is the Blade of Prophecy, which changes up your Condemn skill to fire off multiple times for each monster hit by the initial Condemn blast.

Unfortunately, the weapon appears to have gotten hit by Blizzard’s nerf bat—stealthily. The weapon’s Condemn explosion only procs twice instead of multiple times as it’s supposed to. As Blizzard hasn’t made any announcements regarding the change to the weapon, it’s suspected that the weapon may be bugged or that the change may have been unintentional.

Speaking on the Diablo subreddit, Blizzard community manager Lylirra provided an update about the situation with the weapon:

Hey all! I've passed along your reports to our QA team (to see if this is a possible bug) and our developers (to see if this was an intended change that just didn't get passed along to our team), as well to verify what exactly is functioning differently with the Blade (if anything at all, since it's possible the item hasn't actually changed and this is just a weird, but totally natural case of confirmation bias). I'm not sure I'll be able to find out this information today, since most folks don't begin their shifts until Monday, but hopefully we'll be able to provide some clarity soon. Apologies for any confusion, and thanks for your reports!

My take: Given that I personally play a Crusader that wields the weapon, I too have noticed the change in the weapon’s effectiveness and look forward to a response from Blizzard.
