H1Z1 Players Can Vote to Create Servers

April 18, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Players communities will be able to request special rules and features.

Sony Online Entertainment's recently announced H1Z1 will enable players to vote to create their own themed servers.

SOE president John Smedley revealed the news in an update on Reddit. While the game, a zombie themed post apocalypse survival MMO similar to DayZ, will include generic worlds but will also allow player communities to come together and vote on custom servers which reflect their interests.

Smedley said:

"If a community of our players wants to host a server with a specific theme or ruleset then we're going to do our best to give it to them. Players will recieve a pledge token for free if they've played more than five hours. This pledge token can be used to cast a vote for a server. But use it wisely. You only get one free one per year. Make sure it's a community you believe in and that has a good chance to succeed because we're going to set the bar such that the community can sustain an MMO server."

He revealed that gamers will be able to buy an additional pledge token and that a maximum of two per year can be used per player. On Twitter, Smedley added that player-voted servers will eventually expand beyond specific rule sets with more features being included:

"Perhaps one community prefers to go more militaristic. So they add more military vehicles. So we're truly letting you, our players get exactly the kind of thing you're looking for."

H1Z1 is in development for PC and PS4. You can check out gameplay and screens from the game here.
