Star Citizen: Dynamic Universe, Dogfighting, and Managing Expectations

April 16, 2014 by Yesika Reyes

In a recent PAX interview, Chris Roberts reveals exciting information and dealing with the game’s growing hype.

In a recent video interview with LinusTechTips, Cloud Imperium Games' Chris Roberts talks about building a dynamic universe, an action-packed dogfighting experience, and managing the growing hype and expectations surrounding the Star Citizen.

"We're actually planning on functionality that's based around dynamic locations. When you first start playing the game, everything's going well in colony and it grows from a small town to a bustling city over time. We're actually bulding that kind of tech into all the different planets and environments" Roberts says as he compares it to how the worlds of other MMOs like World of Warcraft and EVE Online have changed since they first started.

Roberts also mentioned that you can also eject your pilot out into space and be in zero gravity since players are equipped with jetpacks to help them move around. Additionally, shield and energy management are important for players to consider as well through their HUD interface. These are just some of the neat stuff players can expect during dogfights.

The remainder of the interview switched its focus on how the developer plans to deliver a smooth experience to players during early access and manage overall expectations of the game. Roberts notes that their early access versions or demo will primarily be for feedback unlike how traditional publishers typically use it mostly for marketing purposes.

He also says that people have their own ideas about what the game is going to be early on in development. Consequently, it's difficult to manage everyone's expectations but he expresses confidence in their work and asks supporters to be patient as the game is being developed.

Check out the other deails we uncovered about game during PAX East. Another video we reported shows first footage of the dogfighting module. Star Citizen reached $42 million in funds throgh crowd-funding platforms as of April 14, 2014.
