Crysis and Crysis 2 Loses Online Multiplayer on PC

April 14, 2014 by Yesika Reyes

As a result of GameSpy shutting down its servers, Crysis and Crysis 2 will shutdown online multiplayer on the PC.

According to a post on Crysis forums, Windows PC versions of Crysis and Crysis 2 will lose their online multiplayer modes as a result of GameSpy shutting down servers for its supported games next month.

Earlier this month, GameSpy announced that they will be shutting down many of its servers by the end of May. Unfortunately, several third party titles on console, mobile, and PC rely on its host functionality for their online game modes. Some developers have already taken action and have started to migrate their game to different servers.

Electronic Arts was reported to be looking into migration options for their older Battlefield titles. Sadly, Crytek won't be looking into doing the same thing for Crysis and Crysis 2's online multiplayer modes. On the bright side, Crysis 2 players on console platforms do not need to worry because they are unaffected. The single-player campaign across platforms won't be affected in any way as well.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has taken up arms in Crysis and Crysis 2's multiplayer modes in the last few years, and apologize to the small but dedicated community of PC players who are still actively competing against one another," the post somberly ended.
