Citizens of Earth Gets New Lease on Life Thanks to Atlus

April 11, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Atlus is publishing Citizens of Earth after its failed Kickstarter bid.

Japanese publisher Atlus has picked up the retro-styled RPG Citizens of Earth after the title failed to receive adequate funding on Kickstarter. Good news then, for its developers at Eden Industries, for getting a new lease on life for the title.

In development as a download-only title, Citizens of Earth casts players as the VIce President of the World, who wakes up one day and realizes the planet is in dire need of help. So he goes out and about the world, recruiting the help of other friendly citizens all of whom join his party, in typical retro-JRPG fashion to complete quests and restore order and balance to the world.

According to Atlus, the game will feature up to 40 playable characters and a 41st player-designed character that Atlus is holding a contest for.

Being the Vice President of the World means asking not what you can do for your countrymen, but what your countrymen can do for you!

The retro-inspired game begins just after the VP has won a long, drawn-out candidacy and returned to his hometown for some taxpayer-funded rest and relaxation. But after just one night passes, the VP awakens to find the world gone berserk! As elected official he has two responsibilities: investigate what's caused people to go crazy… and delegate as much of the dirty work as possible.

The game will be released by Atlus later this year as a digital-only game for the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 4, PS Vita and PC.

Be sure to hit up the official Citizens of Earth website for further details about the game.
