So much for that. If you saw the rumor about EA picking up a domain for the Battlefield 5 beta, you should know it’s just been outed as fake, by the same source.
It could not have been any more blunt when the rumor first came out. The domain in question is Battlefield5beta.com, and the acquirer is CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. Longtime fans and observers recognize this is as the company EA uses to acquire all their recent domains. They apparently stay idle in an external name server until such point that EA is actually going to use them.
Debunking the rumor was just as easy. It was not long before a Facebook page popped up inviting fans for an opportunity to join the Battlefield 5 beta. If you scrolled down, the page would then ask you to share the page via Twitter, Facebook, or Google Plus to get your invite. The clincher would have been the copyright at the bottom, credited to Battlefield5beta.com, and not EA, DICE, or any associated companies.
But then, this would have been way too good to be true, and we should have known better than to believe it. As we know, DICE have pledged not to work on new projects until they have resolved issues with Battlefield 4 to an acceptable level, and there still are quite a few issues that pop up for dedicated fans. The truth is, with some double checking, this could have been verified as fake early on before it spread around.
But what about that Battlefield 5 though? EA and DICE will eventually get around to it, but considering what they went through with its release, they must be thinking long and hard on what to do to ensure that doesn’t happen again.
