Former THQ Boss Wants to Revive del Toro’s InSane

March 19, 2014 by Josiah Renaudin

The horror game that never was is finally discussed.

Former THQ core games head Danny Bilson knows quite a bit about the abandoned products from the now-defunct company. Before THQ went under, a handful of creative concepts were well into the works, but financial troubles forced more than a few difficult decisions. One move that was made as soon as Bilson was replaced was the cancellation of popular filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s horror project, InSane. It’s a game that we barely got acquainted with, but Bilson has only high praise for what he saw.

“I haven’t heard that he’s doing anything with it yet, although I do have an idea how to revive it, and I’m gonna speak to him soon,” Bilson said to VG247. “As much as I can tell you about it is that it was an action adventure game with really great environments, story and characters, and it was period and very Lovecraftian. I don’t wanna spoil it, in the hope that Guillermo wants to go further with it.

“It was really atmospheric, a great world. There were environments in that game that players have never been through before. It had a really interesting narrative, a really great character that the player inhabited in it.”

It might be difficult to woo del Toro back into games after such a sour experience with THQ, but if the filmmaker truly believes in the potential of InSane, Bilson might just get his revival wish.
