Ultra Street Fighter 4’s 5th Character Revealed! Introducing Decapre

March 17, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The Russian Shadowloo doll rounds out Ultra’s expanded cast.

After much anticipation, Capcom has revealed the 5th character joining Ultra Street Fighter IV. Capcom said we wouldn’t like it, and he was right. Introducing Decapre, the only Shadowloo Doll who was on an equal skill level with Cammy.

Decapre is a Russian girl, one of many who were abducted when they were 16 to join M. Bison’s elite assassin / bodyguard troupe. As Street Fighter head Yoshinori Ono alluded to, she appeared in the UDON comics, where it was revealed her black mask hides the scars on the left sides of her face.

Street Fighter continuity is inconsistent, but let’s look at her backstory at this time. Decapre was with the other Dolls when they were attacked by a spiteful Juri, apparently abducted by S.I.N. and their actual fates unknown. Capcom has yet to reveal what Decapre’s story will be in this game, so it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out.

As for gameplay, Capcom’s Combofiend was on hand to demonstrate her abilities. Breaking apart from her original appearances, Decapre’s claws are sheathed and well hidden, although you can see parts of it when she uses her Super. Decapre also has distinct attack patterns from her lookalike Cammy.

Of course, it’s clear that Capcom reused many assets for the five new characters in Ultra, but in their defense, Capcom committed to this update after one of their worst financial years in memory. The Street Fighter team may not have been allowed the budget to create a new character from scratch, but really, that’s fine. All five newcomers are well known to the Street Fighter faithful, and will do their job of expanding the game with new characters to play as, or fight against.

Check out Decapre’s introduction trailer below.
