CEO Yves Guillemot Forced Ubisoft Montreal to Reveal Watch Dogs at E3 2012

March 12, 2014 by Josiah Renaudin

Watch Dogs, one of the most anticipated games of 2014, was shown a bit early for the developer’s tastes.

Watch Dogs was first revealed during an explosive gameplay sequence back in 2012 and in many ways, Ubisoft’s open-world epic was the star of the show. However, the actual decision to showcase a game that far out from release wasn’t in the hands of the developers at the company’s Montreal studio. Instead, it was CEO Yves Guillemot who “forced” the team to present its latest project, according to Edge (via VideoGamer).

"They forced us to go at E3 2012," creative director Jonathan Morin said. "We didn't know what the hell those new consoles would be, so Watch Dogs really has worked on [seventh]-gen systems since the start. But we always pushed the ideas, the design, the core of Watch Dogs in such a way that we felt it would fit well with what we thought would be the future of games.

"Yves was the one who wanted us to go at that E3, even though we felt it was a bit early, and in the end I think he was right."

It’s hard to argue against Guillemot’s decision, since the game was the talk of the town after the demo. However, that was almost two years ago. Watch Dogs isn’t expected to launch until May, so to say that the project was ready for the public eye is debatable.
