Titanfall Launch / Login Issues

March 12, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

This page will track down and curate issues with Titanfall servers, from launch to resolution.

UPDATE: You can check the status of Titanfall's servers on EA's Help page here. Updates will follow below.

March 12, 2014:

Titanfall continues to have issues for fans logging in, as major news outlets report their launch woes.

Not to say that EA, Microsoft, or Respawn were trying to hide any such concerns, but Forbes and Buzzfeed both reported on the game’s launch server woes. Buzzfeed in particular tracked down online sentiment on Twitter.

This user notes that EA set up a server status page at EA Help. Other comments indicate the page claimed the servers were up but people could not log in.

Now, this user has found a new concern connected to logging in. Code 503 indicates Origin is having problems retrieving player data from storage. He receives it a few seconds after clicking play. He also attempted to switch servers via VPN and encountered the same issue. It’s worth noting this player see,s to be outside the US.

This user notes also receiving Code 503 errors after multiple attempts to login. He has a particularly powerful build, with a GTX 780, i7 4770K, and 16 GB of memory. We can safely establish that the issues have nothing to do with technical specs.

This user is claiming they are receiving Code 503 errors, even though the EA status page indicates the servers are up.

As of this writing, the EA help page indicates the servers are down. We're sharing a screenshot below. If you have a copy of Titanfall and need to check on the status quickly, you can check on the updates page linked above.

March 11, 2014:

Respawn has informed players that they are aware of issues logging in to Titanfall servers  at launch and they are working on a fix.

We’re hearing that some PC users may be experience longer than usual load times. We are aware and working on a solution.

They posted the initial tweets about this six hours ago. Based on programmer Jon Shiring’s tweets, EA is handling the main communication. Of course, Microsoft hosts the servers via Azure, and Respawn released a patch around two hours after the issue popped up. The patch should make it easier to enter private lobbies. They have advised that PC users who received an “Initializing” message should back out and try again.

EA is doing the main communication on this – but X1 is seeing the same issue as PC, which is expected. It’s slow – you’ll eventually get in.

— Jon Shiring (@jonshiring) March 11, 2014

Patch is out. Things are starting to recover quickly now – you should get onto that Private Lobby server much faster soon.

They also point out that both Xbox One and PC owners are encountering the same issues, perhaps to reassure fans that no one received preferential treatment between them.

We would be genuinely surprised if Microsoft, which boasts scalability in its servers, and are rumored to have set aside a large number of servers for gaming, prove incapable of handling the task of handling launch demand. We’ll keep you posted as news comes in.
