Plenty of Possibilities for Thief Sequel, Says Eidos

The team behind the latest Thief project has plenty of different ideas for where a sequel could go.

Eidos Montreal's Nick Cantin knows that there’s plenty more that could be done in the modern Thief universe. The development team has been spending years reviving the stealthy series for next-generation hardware, and that’s given the creators plenty of ideas for where things could go in the future.

"We've built a really big universe around the first game, and there's a lot of layers to it – the world is really deep," Cantin explained to OXM. "So there's a lot of possibilities to jump on.

"There's no game out there that's really like this.”

Unfortunately for Eidos, the reviews for Thief haven’t exactly been sterling. There are some out there that believe it’s worth playing despite all the faults, but it might be hard to push a AAA sequel to a project that’s sitting below a 70 on Metacritic.

"Nothing's announced yet but we're very keen to see how people respond to the game," said lead level designer Daniel Windfeld Schmidt.

The sales will be one of the largest determining factors, which we won’t know until the game’s spent some time on the market.
