Microsoft Scraps Ryse: Son of Rome Challenge Editor

February 21, 2014 by Josiah Renaudin

Ryse: Son of Rome won’t be getting the additional SmartGlass feature that the developers had discussed last year.

During last year’s Gamescom, Crytek design director Patrick Esteves told Polygon that Ryse: Son of Rome would receive a challenge editor feature for its cooperative gladiator mode. This would allow a user with the SmartGlass app to create unique objectives for other players to conquer, with the most-liked additions eventually giving challengers higher in-game rewards.

That interesting feature, though, has been cancelled so that both Microsoft and Crytek can improve player experiences through free and purchasable DLC.

"After careful consideration, we have decided to cease development on Ryse: Son of Rome's challenge editor and focus on improving and expanding fans' experience with the game through both free content updates and purchased add-on packs," the spokesperson said. "We look forward to sharing more details soon."

It hasn’t been a critical darling, but the Xbox One title is now available for a reduced price of $40 on the Xbox Live Marketplace. With few pieces of software on either next-gen platform, it might be worth picking this one up just to see what all the hubbub’s about.
