Ubisoft Confirms Two Next-Generation Titles Will Be $60

July 22, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Ubisoft could still jump in price after this year.

There was plenty of talks lately regarding the next-generation video game titles and their price point. Originally, former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden spoke out on his thoughts on the current costs some developers are forced into enduring. The costs to make games are going up and it could mean that we may see a price increase for certain video game titles in the future. Now it looks like we may see a standard across the board for all next-generation video game titles to cost $70.

Shawn Layden spoke about the rising costs for developers to make video games. With each new console platform release, the amount of power some hardware can provide ultimately allows the developers more freedom to craft certain video games and the details within them. This also means that we could see larger and longer video game titles release into the market. However, these games cost quite a pretty penny for development studios, and to help recoup the costs, we would see a price increase for video game titles.

The standard we’re going to likely see is a jump to $69.99 rather than the $59.99 we see today. It’s also something that may worry some gamers who wish to pick up video game titles at launch instead of waiting for the games to go down in price. Now during an earnings call from Ubisoft, we know that at least two video game titles won’t come packed in with the $70 price tag. Apparently, we can rule out Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion.

Ubisoft alerted investors that we would see the two titles releasing this year to also come at $60 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. It’s important to note that only those two games were mentioned and it’s the two titles slated for a release this year. We could very well see a price increase from Ubisoft next year if the studio continues developing games specifically for the next-generation platforms.
