Rumor: PS4 Gran Turismo 7 Development Underway?

February 18, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Insider thuway drops tantalizing hints, and maybe bit off more than he could chew at the end there.

We have new rumors on what Polyphony Digital has planned for Gran Turismo 7, likely to be the 1st iteration of the series coming to the Playstation 4.

The rumors come from thuway, AKA Ahsan Rasheed, who seems to often walk a fine line between spoiling information about ongoing projects, but keeping enough info

secret so that he hasn’t been taken down yet.

Very interesting solutions, multiple prototypes, but the end product is Hnnnnng. Say hello to Gran Turismo 7.

Hey GT guys, I hear GDDR5 has got you 3d trees and real people. Now if only I could find out about your engine noises.

Based on his tweets, Polyphony Digital has implemented ‘interesting solutions’ for GT7. He described one of those solutions as using the GDDR5 to make 3D trees and real people.

The game has apparently gone through multiple prototypes, implying Polyphony may have been working on PS4 development earlier than they have led on.

Ashan alludes to not having enough information about engine noises, which implies there may be something new coming up on that front. It’s a genuinely intriguing comment, although I know most people won’t notice it. Graphics is often heralded in this day and age but Sony has made huge steps forward in audio with each Playstation iteration, and Gran Turismo definitely demonstrated that. GT7 may also be setting new audio benchmarks.

Rounding it up, Ashan made a recent tweet about there not being a GT7 Prologue on purpose. To refresh your memories, Gran Turismo 4 and 5 had a Prologue, which was a shorter version of the game released a few months in advance. Both of these came out on the Playstation 3 and helped increase interest in the full games.

GT7 Prologue was left out intentionally.

Ashan seems to be implying that PS4 development turned out to be much better than PS3, and so they did not have to make a prologue to keep fans waiting too long. Of course, this comment may have gotten Ashan in trouble, since it makes implications about PS3 development.

In any case, this could mean GT7 development is coming along faster than in previous years. Considering GT6 just came out, and Sony is keen to talk about Drive Club for now, it probably won’t be coming up this year. How long do you think we have to wait? Let us know in the comments below.

For better or worse, we currently only have an image from Gran Turismo 6.
