Nintendo Had No Issues With Flappy Bird

February 10, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Nintendo had no plans to pursue legal action against Vietnamese developer.

Nintendo has denied that it ever threathened, or intended to pursue, legal action against Dong Nguyen, the Hanoi based developer of the popular Flappy Bird which Nguyen pulled from app stores over the weekend.

In an email to The Wall Street Journal Nintendo representative Yasuhiro Minagawa said, “While we usually do not comment on the rumors and speculations, we have already denied the speculation [regarding Flappy Bird].”

On Saturday, Nguyen tweeted: "I cannot take this anymore" when he announced his decision to remove the game. He insisted that doing so was not a result of legal difficulties and said that he will continue to make games.

Nguyen has made no public comments since he removed Flappy Bird. Phones which had the game installed before it was axed are being sold for high prices on Ebay while a host of copycat titles have since sprung up in its place.

There had been speculation that Nintendo may sue Nguyen over art in the game which is similar to Super Mario Brothers, particularly the game's green pipes.
