Nintendo Not Planning Mini-Games for Smartphones

January 28, 2014 by Andrea Castellano

Nintendo doesn’t plan to release mini-games on smartphones.

A Japanese newspaper, Nikkei, reported that Nintendo plans to release mini-games on smartphones as a taste of the full versions released on Nintendo hardware. Today Nintendo reached out to GameSpot and clarified they don't plan to bring mini-games to smartphone devices.

The Nikkei article contains information that Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata shared during past press conferences. Iwata explained that Nintendo views smartphones as a way to promote their products, but the company didn't plan to execute on the idea.

A Nintendo spokesperson said, "However during such past announcements Mr Iwata has also stated that Nintendo's intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices and as such, we can confirm that there are no plans to offer mini-games on smartphone devices."

A lot of rumors surfaced this month after Nintendo revised its financial forecasts. The company adjusted its sales projections for the Wii U from 9 million units down to 2.8 million projected units. Following the forecasts, a report surfaced that Nintendo plans to release new hardware under the Nintendo Fusion name. Although the Nintendo did register the NintendoFusion.com domain, no reports confirm the hardware details.
