The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Sells 20 Million Copies

January 26, 2014 by Stephen Daly

The single player RPG proved to be very popular.

Bethesda announced on Thursday that The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has sold more than 20 million copies. In a post on the BethBlog, the publisher revealed the news alongside The Elder Scrolls Online's cast.

In a section dedicated to past games in the franchise, Bethesda wrote:

"The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim which was released in November 2011 and enjoyed worldwide critical and commercial success. Skyrim earned hundreds of ‘Game of the Year’ awards and sold over 20 million copies."

Skyrim was recently included as part of The Elder Scrolls Anthology which includes all five games so far released in the series.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set for release in April on PC and on PS4 and Xbox One in June. Skyrim's formidable success will hopefully encourage more developers to release single player games without tacked on multiplayer modes.
