Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Had Different Developers for PS4 and Xbox One

January 24, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Having different developers may explain the framerate difference between PS4 and Xbox One.

Developer Nixxes has revealed that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition had different developers for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

Nixxes was responsiblee for the PS4 edition while United Front Games are responsible for bringing the game to Xbox One.

In a blog update issued last month to accompany the Definitive Edition's announcement, and discovered today by NeoGAF, the studio commented:

"Nixxes Software is proud to announce that it has been working on the PlayStation 4 version for the recent announced Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

"In addition to converting the game to PlayStation 4, Nixxes Software provided support to United Front Games, the developer responsible for the Xbox One version of the game."

Prior to its work on the Definitive Edition for PS4, Nixxes ported Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution to PC. United Front Games developed ModNation Racers, Sleeping Dogs, and LittleBigPlanet Karting.

The news follows reports which suggest the PlayStation 4 version of the game will output at 60fps while the Xbox One edition will render at 30fps. Having different developers may explain the difference between the two versions.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is set for release next week.
