Kickstarter Cradle Wants To Bring You To A Fantasy Open-World Filled With Adventure

January 23, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Carnegie Mellon’s best have come together for an ambitious new project.

Another ambitious new Kickstarter has come up, this time from former students of Carnegie Mellon. Introducing Cradle, winner of Indie DB 2013’s upcoming Indie of the Year.

Cradle is set in a fantasy world called Anora, populated by gods. A thousand years ago, the gods conspired to take down one of their own. Aderyn, the god of free will and creation, was beaten, and his realm, the Cradle, almost wiped out completely. You play an outcast on the lam from one of these gods, who stumbles across the Cradle. You pick up the quest to raise Cradle back to its former glory, with the ultimate goal to precipitate the return of Anora.

The game itself is built on CryEngine, and will have that familiar high fantasy look. There will be five character classes, and game progression will be based on exploration to pick up weapon parts to upgrade. You can also upgrade using armor parts and Perks.

Some other aspects of Cradle promise to be truly novel and innovative. Combat is a completely new invention. It will be fast-paced, melee-based, and based more on skill than chance. Similarly, health and stamina are handled in atypical ways. You will be able to prepare concoctions and poultices to regenerate these stats, so familiarity with the environment is essential. Furthermore, mana will be a powerful resource in the game, the actual physical manifestation of damage in your realm. Learning to tap into the mana is key to saving the world it has desolated.

As always, the developer team, Mojo Games Studios, assembles a superstar batch of talent and has high hopes. They need $ 350,000 to ensure the game goes through, and subsequently have not listed any stretch goals.

Is this project too ambitious to fund in Kickstarter? Star Citizen says no. Check it out and fund it if you would like here.
