Remember that Super Mario Bros. film with all the crazy dinosaur-head villains and awful acting? Of course you do – it ruined any and all hope that a good representation of Nintendo’s classic franchise could be seen on the big screen. It was a bust, but a new short film by the Fury Fingers YouTube team takes a bit of a new approach for the classic brand. This time, the Mushroom Kingdom is about as gritty as it can be, and Mario has to resort to a few new tricks in order to save the princess from the fiery clutches of Bowser.
It’s a humorous, dark take on the platformer, filled with enough fan service to make any Goomba-stomping expert go wild. Take a look at the full video above and if you like it let the creators know. Looks like they put some hard work into Gritty Mario World.
