Facebook Is Bringing Out A Gaming App

April 21, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Facebook Gaming will allow streaming or viewers to watch content.

It looks like there may be a new streaming source app that may help either allow users to watch the content or stream gameplay of their own. Facebook may or may not come to mind when you think of game streams. While you have dedicated streaming websites such as Twitch or Mixer, Facebook has also been working to cater towards streaming. In fact, streaming in general, has become somewhat of a bidding war with big-name online personalities signing deals and contracts for exclusive streams towards the different companies.

However, Facebook is taking it one step further by bringing out a whole new app that’s purely dedicated to streaming video games. Known as Facebook Gaming, this application was originally meant to release in June, but with the pandemic and video games becoming such a major part in daily lives as of late Facebook opted to release the app sooner. This application is aiming to both allow streamers to quickly pick up gameplay on their device likewise, viewers can simply open up the app and start watching their favorite streamers that are actively using Facebook Gaming.

Currently, it looks like there isn’t much required to start streaming either with this service, making it also user friendly to stream mobile games. Reportedly there are over 700 million users that are engaging in gaming content on Facebook, so this application may already have plenty of users readily available right now.

According to the New York Times, Facebook is looking at an application on your smartphone simply as a means to keep users engaged rather than being another window on your desktop set in the background. Furthermore, there is a means to also supply streamers funds from users that are interested in donating money towards the channel. Users can find that there is an in-app currency known as Stars that can be donated towards a channel, a profit of which would go to Facebook.
