MLB 2K Series Comes to an End

January 6, 2014 by Josiah Renaudin

After limping to release over the past few years, the MLB series has ended.

After years of competing against Sony’s popular MLB: The Show franchise, 2K Sports has put a halt to its MLB 2K brand.

This news was confirmed earlier today to Joystiq. A 2K representative released the following statement: "[we] decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014. We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K – our industry's #1 rated and #1 selling basketball franchise."

The writing was on the wall. Earlier, the publisher began to remove the brand from its various pages, cutting ties with the struggling series. The last game to be released, MLB 2K13, saw no love from the critics due to its shocking similarities to the previous iteration. Baseball and 2K Sports just haven’t been clicking for some time now.

That should put an even greater spotlight on the NBA 2K brand, which saw a homerun late last year with 2K14.
