Far Cry 2 Creative Director Leaves Valve

January 6, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Clint Hocking quit Valve at the end of 2013.

Far Cry 2's creative director Clint Hocking has left Valve according to his updated personal website and LinkedIn profiles.

Hocking had been at the Seattle based Half-Life developer for 18 months prior to his departure. He joined in July 2012 after two years at the now defunct LucasArts where he worked on a number of unannounced projects.

Previously Hocking had worked for nine years at Ubisoft where, apart from his involvement with Far Cry, he also contributed to the Splinter Cell series.

It's unclear what projects Hocking was involved at while employed by Valve or why he left the company. Also unknown is what Hocking is currently up to.

In a Washington Post interview on Friday Valve head Gabe Newell explained his company's peculiar lack of a management structure and unusual business practices. It's possible that not everyone fits into such a system which might explain Hocking's departure.

Newell also explained why Valve doesn't simply churn out Half-Life after Half-Life sequel.
