Nintendo Not Planning to Change 3DS StreetPass Limits

December 30, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

The 3DS StreetPass 10 connection limit won’t change at the moment, says Nintendo.

When attending local conventions or even walking down the street, some 3DS owners want to avoid constantly welcoming new Mii's into their StreetPass Mii Plaza with the 10 person limit. In an interview with Kotaku, Kouichi Kawamoto, producer of the StreetPass games, explained the 10 person limit and Nintendo's plans for future StreetPass games.

When asked about the 10 person StreetPass limit, Kawamoto explained that Nintendo could possibly upgrade the cap in the future, but points to data transmission as a reason for the limit.

"We had been thinking about the possibility of expanding StreetPass Mii Plaza from the start, and we set the maximum number of connections to 10 to ensure we'd have room to exchange more data via StreetPass in the future. … there is a possibility that we'll raise the number of connections."

In regard to the limit, Kawamoto added, "We have no plans to do that, and we're already transmitting a lot of data, so even if we stopped right now, I doubt that number would go up much."

When asked about the future of StreetPass games, Kawamoto said he had nothing else to discuss.

Nintendo recently added the MiiVerse to the 3DS after many Wii U owners posted screenshots, drawings and messages on Nintendo's game dedicated forum system. The MiiVerse came to the 3DS as a free update and also merged 3DS and Wii U Nintendo Network accounts.
