Bitcoin was developed as a finite, open source, peer-to-peer electronic currency network. The payment method uses cryptography to complete and secure monetary transactions and Bitcoins are tied to generated addresses on users' hardware, online services, or paper notices.
The currency has proven controversial with regulators and banks for existing outside the traditional monetary system. Bitcoin's creator, who goes by the name Satoshi Nakamoto, has never been found and is believed by experts to be a group rather than an individual.
