New DayZ Standalone Image Shows Long-Range Weapon

December 3, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Here’s your monthly reminder that DayZ Standalone exists and it looks pretty great.

DayZ Standalone might not be just right around the corner like many people thought, but a new screenshot taken directly from the in-progress game indicates that the Arma 2 mod is well on its way to becoming a real game.

The above image was posted by Brian Hicks, a producer at developer Bohemia Interactive. It was Tweeted along with the phrase “last thing I saw before a bullet through the dome from 400m+ away.”

Makes the wait difficult, right? However, Dean "Rocket" Hall confirmed just last month that plenty of optimization needs to be done before this zombie-themed experience gets into the hands of consumers.

"We need more performance," Hall wrote. "We think we need a minimum of 15 FPS [server-side with] 50 players, 2000 zombies, and 25000 loot items. Our latest tests have all shown some runaway systems in the code we have to tidy up."

Look to hear more from Bohemia in the coming weeks.
