EA Files Trademark for Classic PC Game, Desert Strike

December 2, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Desert Strike is now in the hands of EA.

Electronic Arts has put in a trademark filing for one Desert Strike. Older gamers may recognize the name, as it belongs to one of the best isometric shooters of all time.

Originally released for the Sega Genesis, Amiga and SNES way back in 1992, PC gamers too had a taste of the game when it came out in 1994. The game was followed up by the release of several other Strike games, including Jungle Strike, Urban Strike, and Nuclear Strike.

In the original Desert Strike, players boarded an Apache AH-64 helicopter and embarked upon missions in the Gulf War and saw to the destruction of Iraqi military bases, the rescue of POWs, and even the defense of the President of the United States in one mission.

With any luck, EA could be gunning for a possible franchise reboot with the trademark application for a next-gen isometric shooter—preferably one powered by the latest iteration of the Frostbite engine.
