D4 Developer Swery65 Has Already Started Work On Deadly Premonition Sequel

November 27, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

We don’t even know how long D4 is going to take, so who knows how long we’ll wait for this game?

D4 developer Swery65, aka Hidetaka Suehiro, has confirmed that, even as he toils on the next gen game, a Deadly Premonition sequel is already in the works.

In fact, Swery65 claims to have worked quite a bit on the franchise. D4 has been in the works for the last two to three years, and within that time he laid down the framework for the Deadly Premonition: Director’s Cut, the Deadly Premonition sequel, as well as the Lord of Arcana games. To put this in context, the Director’s Cut was released April 30 of this year.

Deadly Premonition itself is known as one of the most critically polarizing games ever made, actually listed as such in the Guinness 2012 World Record Gamer’s Edition. Taking the role of Agent Francis “York” Morgan, you enter the town of Greenvale to investigate a murder. Greenvale has a day night cycle operating one thirds of real time, with NPCs following their own schedules, as well as a weather system. Other perplexing choices include survival horror combat sequences, which occasionally include quick time events.

The first Deadly Premonition saw initial development in 2004, and had development released to eliminate perceived similarities to Twin Peaks following an early showing in Tokyo Game Show 2007. The game was eventually released October 2010.

Could this Deadly Premonition sequel take that long to release as well? Even if it needed six years, you can at least rest assured some of the preliminary work has been finished and development is ongoing. In the meantime, you can look forward to Swery65’s D4, which we have to assume will be releasing first, whenever this game releases.
