Rumor: Rockstar Files Bully Trademark, New Game On The Way?

November 25, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Trademarked name implies game will not be a sequel, possibly a remake?

Rockstar Games has filed a new trademark application for Bully, with the full name of Bully Bullworth Academy: Canis Canem Edit.

The game was released as Bully in the US and Canis Canem Edit in PAL regions in 2006 for the Playstation 2. Some special editions for this version came with a comic book and a dodgeball. Subsequent ports to Wii, Xbox 360 and PC went with the name Bully: Scholarship edition.

Bully puts you in the role of Jimmy Hopkins, as he enters New England boarding school Bullworth Academy and makes his way through the cliques. Much like its Rockstar siblings, Bully allows you to explore the school campus freely, to interact with characters as you wish, although you will have to talk to certain characters and meet objectives to move the story forward. Bully is also filled with minigames to break up the gameplay.

Bully is not as controversial or huge as its Grand Theft Auto big brother. However, it has earned acclaim for bringing the Grand Theft Auto style open world in a different direction, while retaining much of what people love about Rockstar games. Essentially all the games have received critical praise, save the PC version for serious graphical issues, that the company addressed in subsequent patches.

Based on the name alone, it may be too early to speculate on platforms, but it is implicit within that the game is probably not a sequel. Could it be another special edition of the original Bully? Could we look forward to new content, or best case scenario, a remake of the first game? I would point out this could also just be tantamount to renewing IP rights, or  game to be worked on for the next few years. We hope Rockstar tells us soon enough.
