Ubisoft Outlines Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag PC Optimization Process

November 22, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

Ubisoft commits to producing the best PC version for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.

While console players download patches to run Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag at a native 1080p resolution, PC players also try to adjust settings for the best possible performance. Ubisoft took to their official blog to outline the process to optimize Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag on the PC.

In an interview with Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag associate producer, Sylvain Trottier, he said that Ubisoft does not focus on PC optimization. To clarify what Trottier actually meant, Ubisoft outlined the development process for PC hardware.

During research and development phase, the Ubisoft team tries to push the limitations of graphics to see what they can produce. This process doesn't consider hardware or performance, but only what the game can accomplish.

The team then begins the optimization phase first on the PC. Since every employee has a computer on their desks, the familiarity with PC hardware simplifies the optimization process. Ubisoft then takes anything learned from the PC optimization process and uses for next-gen console development.

Aside from the logistics of PC development, Ubisoft enjoys it as a platform. Trottier then explained Ubisoft's dedication to a PC version.

“It’s absolutely not true that we don’t care about PC optimization. If we didn’t care about PC optimization, then we would not have such a big team in Kiev. We have a team dedicated just to the PC version in Kiev.”

Trottier promises that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Runs well on low-end and high-end hardware. And if you have the power, Trottier urges players to run at a 4k resolution.
