Microsoft: Depth of 2014 Xbox One Game Portfolio is Incredible

November 20, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

The Xbox One will have loads of games to play in 2014, says Phil Spencer.

Console launches rarely have loads of fantastic software surrounding them. Sure, standout games exist early on, but the majority of launch titles just don’t take advantage of the new hardware they’re running on. The Xbox One has Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3 to prop it up, but Microsoft Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer let Polygon know just how deep the console’s future game portfolio really is.

"I'm spending all of my time now playing games that are 2014 titles," Spencer said in a recent interview. "I was in Europe last week visiting Lionhead, I was at Rare, [Max: The Curse of Brotherhood developer] PressPlay up in Copenhagen talking about and playing things that are going to come out in the next year, maybe a little later. The depth of the portfolio next year is pretty incredible."

It’s not all about the first-party games, either. There are a few third-party projects, like Titanfall, that are making the Xbox One software suite all the more appealing.

"I think back to the Xbox 360 launch, I don't think we really had those mega franchises that were landing in winter to spring that we're seeing out of third parties in that same timeframe for Xbox One," Spencer said.

The console isn’t even available yet, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to look at what’s coming down the line. Expect plenty of exciting games to hit the Xbox One in 2014 and beyond.
