Square Enix: Website Hacked

May 13, 2011 by Eric Swain

The Deus Ex website has been hacked and over 25,000 email addresses have been taken.

Square Enix has confirmed the recent attack in the Deus Ex website has had some personal data stolen. The attack took place on Wednesday and the publishers now confirmed that personal data has been compromised. Read the statement Square Enix sent to VG247 below:

“Square Enix can confirm a group of hackers gained access to parts of our Eidosmontreal.com website as well as two of our product sites. We immediately took the sites offline to assess how this had happened and what had been accessed, then took further measures to increase the security of these and all of our websites, before allowing the sites to go live again,”

Only email addresses and resumes for jobs at Eidos Montreal were compromised. Square Enix wants to stress that no Credit Card data was stolen due to the websites not holding any such data. The last attack we've seen against gamers was the recent attack on the PlayStation Network which has gone down for almost a month. Square Enix does not know exactly who carried out the attack on the Eidos and Deus Ex websites, but the finger seems to be pointing toward Anonymous. However, that is yet to be proven whether anyone from Anonymous is responsible for the recent attack.
