Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag: Find The Mini-Games And Beat Them

November 14, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Playing all the checker games in Black Flag is easier than you think… if you cheat.

One of the fun little additions to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag that may not necessarily get as much attention in the trailers or interviews, but will help make you feel like you are in another time and place, are the little minigames. Here we explain to you where to seek out those minigames and how to win them.

These are actually board games, the oldest and most enduring of them, played with the rules from that actual time period. Checkers, also known as draughts, has been around in various incarnations throughout history, and has been with us since 3000 BC. Nine Men’s Morris and Fanorona are both variations of checkers, with radically different rules, as you’ll soon learn.

You can play beginner’s Nine Men’s Morris in Arroys and Crooked Island, at intermediate in Andreas Island, Corozal, and Salt Key Bank, and expert level in Kingston. Beginner’s Fanorona is playable at Nassau, intermediate level at Kingston, and expert level at Ile’s Vache. Beginner’s checkers are in Havana’s pub, intermediate level at Great Iguana, and expert level at Grand Caymen.

We won’t go through the rules of playing these games, as the game will provide that for you. Of course, the last thing you need to do at this juncture is have to master actual board games in the process of playing this video game. So, we’ll teach you how to cheat, with the help of online versions of these games, so that you are pitting AC4’s gaming AI with these online game versions.

Checkers: Open this link to an online version of Checkers. Set online game AI to expert. Let your AC4 opponent go first, repeat that action on the online game. When the online game reacts with its own move, you put that move into the AC4 game.

Fanorona:  Open this link to an online version of Fanorona. Let your AC4 opponent go first. In the online game, have human play black and computer play white, with black making the first move and his pieces on top. OK multiple captures on the 1st move, and if you want to, you can enable long move log format and algebraic notation. Do just as you did with checkers.

Nine Men’s Morris: Open this link to an online version of Nine Men’s Morris. Set AI thinking time on the online game to 30 seconds. Repeat just as you did with checkers.
