Sony and Microsoft Claim They’ve Enough PS4s and Xbox Ones for Launch

November 13, 2013 by Stephen Daly

‘Phenomenal’ results in PS4 production while Microsoft has ‘millions of units available’.

The Wall Street Journal reports claims from both Sony and Microsoft that the two companies have enough launch units for their next-gen consoles.

SCEA president Jack Tretton said the company has met internal predictions for PS4 production thanks to efficiency improvements and ample quantities of new microprocessors from AMD.

“The results have been nothing short of phenomenal,” Tretton commented, adding that the console was easier to produce than the PS3.

Microsoft's Yusuf Mehdi also told the Journal that there will not be Xbox One launch shortages.

“We’ll have millions of units available,” he said, adding pre-orders for the Xbox One are at record levels, but did not supply numbers.

At gamescom in August Sony announced that it had a record one million PS4 pre-orders and that number has likely risen since then. Ubisoft has hinted in its latest financial report that PS4 pre-orders are ahead of those for the Xbox One.

“I’m a big believer the market will grow,” Mehdi added. He's previously revealed Microsoft projections which suggest next-gen consoles will sell at least 400,000 million units and possibly one billion.

Earlier today Microsoft detailed its Xbox One launch plans which will see 10,000 stores open worldwide and parties in major cities.
