Known for his work on Horizon: Zero Dawn, and some involvement with Death Stranding, Sony decided that Hulst will be the best candidate for the position. Discussing the position with CEO and President of PlayStation, Jim Ryan, he sates that Hermen is one of the most effective and well-respected leaders in the video game industry with a ton of passion for the industry.
Jim Ryan discussing Herman Hulst:
“Hermen is one of the most effective and well-respected leaders in the video game industry. He is a passionate advocate for the teams he leads and understands how to empower creative talent to build great experiences. I have no doubt Hermen can lead our teams to deliver compelling and diverse experiences at a steady cadence.”
The position of Worldwide Studios President is a huge role for Herman Hulst to adapt to, however, he is up for the challenge! Hulst said the following about the announcement:

Hulst isn’t the only one with a new position, as the lovable Shuhei Yoshida will also be getting a new position. Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida will leave his current role and head a new indie initiative.
This new indie initiative will give indie developers better tools, time, and money to create some of the best indie games for the platform. And of you know Yoshida, you know that he loves idie titles, so this is a great position for him!
Jim Ryan on Shuhei Yoshida’s new position:
“Everybody knows just how passionate Shu is about independent games — they are lifeblood of the industry, making our content portfolio so special for our gamers,” Ryan said. “These wildly creative experiences deserve focus, and a champion like Shu at PlayStation who will ensure the entire SIE organization works together to better engage with independent developers through a culture of supporting and celebrating their contributions to PlayStation platforms.”
This is all exciting news for Sony as it seems they are gearing up for the next-genration by announcing new leaders. With a PlayStation 5 set to release in 2020, Sony must be moving a lot of things around, it’s a very exciting time for both the company and players.
