Playstation Announces US-Exclusive Sony Rewards Program

October 31, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

You’re buying Sony things under Playstation anyway, earn points to buy even more Sony things.

Sony today announced Sony Rewards for Playstation, a rewards program for Playstation users in the US. Although some may make the comparison to Club Nintendo, it actually has more in common with retail point programs. This is because the rewards are other Sony merchandise, and Sony has leveraged deals with Visa to make their own cards.

But first, how the system works. When you connect your PSN account to Sony Rewards, you can start earning a point for every dollar spent on either the Playstation Store or the Sony Online Store. You can also earn points from buying Blu-Ray discs and Sony DVDs and shopping with Sony partners, such as Walmart.com and Target.com. You can actually also straight up buy points, presumably to take advantage of occasional exclusive offers.

You can then redeem these points to pay for more Sony merchandise, such as PSN items, Playstation Plus, Playstation games, systems and accessories, and a range of non-game related items. Some of the latter include monitors, cameras, Xperia tablets, Sony movies and music, digital downloads, etc.

There are also limited offer additional points if you sign up immediately, buy something from PSN, subscribe to Playstation Plus or watch Carrie in theaters. You can also earn points and get rewards faster by signing up for either a Visa Sony Card or a Visa Playstation Card.

So, as mentioned above, this isn’t quite Club Nintendo, with annual swag that you can’t get anywhere else, but Sony leveraged their own strengths here, and obviously, Sony products are not bad incentives to sign up. Interested? You can sign up or get more information from the source below.
