Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a new game released in 2013 will have a day-one patch that you should seriously consider downloading. Unfortunately, that’s just the nature of the industry today, thanks to even tighter development schedules and the ability to fix bugs on the fly. Both of the next-generation consoles will need major updates before performing how they’ve been advertized and according to developer DICE, the first patch for Battlefield 4 is something you should download before even attempting to play the game.
It’s not required, but this hefty "Battlefield 4 Multiplayer Update 1" download is available now and likely worth looking into if the developer is advising it. The patch weighs in at 119.21MB, so don’t expect to jump right in to your just new game immediately.
“This Battlefield 4 update contains improvements to the multiplayer portions of the game," DICE said. "We strongly advise you download it."
It would be great if we could just live in a world where games shipped as complete products, but that’s just not the case. This next-generation blockbuster shooter needed to get out the door before the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts, and that means that the consumer will have to deal with an update right out of the gate.
